Air Force Review into Civil Aviation Access to Air Force Airfields.

The Minister for Defence, the Hon Stephen Smith MP, released the Air Force Review into Civil Aviation Access to Air Force Airfields for public comment on 16 June 2011. The Review addresses the impact and consequences of the use of Air Force airfields by civil aircraft, with recommendations to enable the drafting and implementation of policy that supports the current and future needs of military aviation.

The Review is intended to provide the civil aviation industry with advice in regard to recommendations relating to future Defence policy on civil use of military airfields, and the associated Defence concerns with respect to the development and maintenance of capability in the national interest. Defence is required to deliver to Government the requisite capabilities necessary to meet extant national policy requirements.

The National Aviation White Paper noted that the review conducted by Defence would be considered by Government to ensure that civil access to Defence airfields is compatible with current and future military requirements.

Civil aviation industry is invited to examine and comment on the Review, to inform Defence consideration of policy, to the contact details below. Comments close on 31 October 2011.
