Air Force 2021

On 31 March 2021, the Royal Australian Air Force will mark the centenary of its establishment as an independent service. This will be an important time to reflect on our enduring contribution to Australia's national security.

Our vision for Air Force 2021 is a program of carefully selected events and initiatives that honour the sacrifices and contributions of the past, demonstrate today's highly capable Air Force and foreshadow our continued evolution into the future.

The first stage of planning for our centenary was the consultation phase from November 2015 to April 2016. We invited ideas and suggestions from RAAF members, veterans, AAFC and the Australian community. There were more than 320 submissions – plenty of exciting and creative ideas. Thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute.

The Air Force 2021 team is now assessing all submissions against our planning criteria:

  • Direct relevance to the Royal Australian Air Force's history, present or future,
  • Potential cost versus likely outcome
  • Emphasis on initiatives that can deliver an ongoing effect
  • Safety of our people and the community is paramount
  • Emphasis on events or initiatives within Australia

We will update this page as planning for Air Force 2021 develops. People who registered for Air Force 2021 email updates will receive periodic emails.

While the consultation phase has now concluded, we always welcome great ideas, comments or questions regarding the centenary. You can contact the planning team or register your interest in receiving updates by emailing: RAAF2021@defence.gov.au
