CAC CA-18 Mustang Mk23 A68-170

Transferred from No 7 Stores Depot to the RAAF Museum for display in 1970, A68-170 was initially restored to operating condition in the mid-1970s, and was known by the name 'Duffys Delight', after the Senior Engineering Officer at No 1 Flying Training School at the time. Displayed at many Point Cook air pageants during this time, the aircraft was not permitted to fly because of policy limitations.

In 1989, an in-depth restoration of the aircraft commenced under the control of No 1 Flying Training School and RAAF Museum staff. This restoration would result in every component of the aircraft being totally disassembled and refurbished. In addition, all work performed on the aircraft was required to comply with Civil Aviation Airworthiness requirements, adding a further level of complexity and documentation to the restoration works.

After ten years of restoration, the aircraft finally returned to the air in February 1999, and soon after was displayed at the Avalon Air Show that year.
