Air Force Balloon

The Air Force Balloons are operated by No. 28 Squadron, based in Canberra, and conduct regular training flights in the Canberra region in addition to their touring program. The mobility of the Air Force Balloons enables them to travel to many regional areas to promote the Air Force. A hot-air balloon can support events to which it may not be feasible or economical to send other Air Force aircraft. Because balloons are able to launch from an open space rather than an airfield, and conduct low-level tethered flights, Air Force balloon crews have a great opportunity to personally represent the Air Force to many people.
