No 24 (City of Adelaide) Squadron
The Royal Australian Air Force's No 24 (City of Adelaide) Squadron is a unit of the Air Force Active Reserve (RAAFAR) responsible to Reserve Training Wing. The squadron’s role is to provide trained personnel to augment Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability, particularly for the Surveillance and Response Group (SRG) during contingency operations.
Work Undertaken
No 24 Squadron provides training facilities for both new members of the Active Reserve, and trained personnel across a broad range of categories and musterings to augment SRG operations. Air Force Reserve members are continuously kept up to date in their basic military skills, and are required to maintain a minimum level of operational capability and currency in physical fitness, weapon handling, ground combat, and basic general service skills.
Members are also managed to enable the ongoing maintenance and upgrading of their specialist skills via targeted work opportunities within local and other operational units during exercises and contingency operations, and via targeted training courses.
No 24 Squadron also manages locally-based members of the Operational Aircrew Reserve Group (OARG), who are required to maintain their flying skills as ex-Air Force members transferred to the Active Reserve.
Musterings
The RAAFAR has the capability to enlist and manage all categories and musterings current in the Air Force, with the addition of a number of trades and specialisations which are no longer a part of the current Permanent Air Force. Standard
On the 13 January 1971, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II approved the award of the Standard to No 24 (City of Adelaide) (Auxiliary) Squadron.
