Air Force Reserve
No 28 (City of Canberra) Squadron
The Royal Australian Air Force's No 28 (City of Canberra) Squadron is a unit in Reserve Training Wing, which is part of Air Force Training Group. Our mission is to train and maintain Air Force Reserve personnel in order to meet Air Force and Australian Defence Force objectives.
No 28 Squadron has a small cadre of Permanent Air Force (PAF) members and a much larger element (approximately 150 personnel) of the RAAF Active Reserve (RAAFAR). ACT-based members of the Reserve Staff Group (RSG) are also administered by No 28 Squadron, as are members of the RAAF Special Reserve (RAAFSR) and the RAAF Standby Reserve (RAAFSTR).
No 28 Squadron has and is changing its focus from a predominantly garrison support role to an expanding operational role. Members are employed in diverse musterings and categories, where individuals successfully manage their primary employment, personal lives and part-time service. While squadron members have traditionally been those transferring from the PAF, significant numbers are now direct entry personnel looking for challenge and a chance to serve.
Employment opportunities include but are not limited to:
- Operations
- Logistics
- IT
- Communications
- Intelligence
- Personnel Services
- Health
- Air Base Protection.
No 28 Squadron also has a flight at Wagga and we conduct initial and post graduate training.
No 28 Squadron personnel also operate the RAAF Hot-Air Balloons, which promote the Air Force in regional and rural Australia.
