Service Profile: Noel White
Noel L. White became a member of aircrew in the Royal Australian Air Force in 1943. He began his training at Initial Training School Bradfield Park, NSW, and was categorised for further training as a pilot.
He began his flying in Tiger Moths at Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) Temora, NSW, progressing to Service Flying Training School (SFTS) Point Cook, Victoria, flying Avro Ansons, having been selected to train as a bomber pilot.
After gaining his wings, Noel was one of eight pilots seconded to the United States Air Force (USAF) 380th Bomb Group, spending five months as a member of USAF 528 Squadron operating out of Fenton Field in the Northern Territory. He also served with RAAF No. 2 Squadron in Borneo, experiencing operational service in the South-West Pacific.
In other flying activity, Noel trained at a High Altitude (HAC) Course at Somers and a Ground Reconnaissance Course at Bairnsdale, Victoria. He also served as a Staff Pilot at East Sale, Victoria, in the instruction of trainee navigators.
In addition to Tiger Moths and Avro Ansons, Noel flew Airspeed Oxfords, Beauforts, B-24 Liberators and B-25 Mitchells. He was discharged on demobilisation in 1945, having attained the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
