These profiles and stories were donated to the RAAF Museum by the Gold Coast Branch of the Air Crew Association.

Service Profile: Eric Read

Eric Read AFC (ACA 16235) was attested into the Royal Australian Air Force in 1935 and served until 1945.

His postings included General Reconnaissance School, Bairnsdale, Victoria, and No. 2 Operational Training Unit, Tocumwal, NSW.

As a pilot, Eric flew twenty types of aircraft, and served in the South Pacific region, being awarded the Air Force Cross in recognition of his valued service.

A graduate of the RAAF Staff School (later renamed RAAF Staff College), Eric attained the rank of Wing Commander.

At the time of his discharge, Eric was Commanding Officer of No.  82 (HB) Wing, Amberley.
