Service Profile: Don Solin

Donald H. Solin (ACA 18932) began his aircrew training in the Royal Australian Air Force in June 1942 at Initial Training School (ITS) Clontarf, progressing through pilot training schools at Cunderdin and Geraldton.

On posting to the UK for further flying under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS), Don flew Wellingtons, Stirlings and Halifaxes.

He saw active service in the European, North African and Italian theatres before being repatriated to Australia.

Under the General Demobilisation Program, Don was discharged in February 1946 with the rank of Flying Officer.

Following the outbreak of the Korean War and the associated call to arms, Don rejoined the RAAF, being granted a permanent commission as an officer in the Equipment Branch, retiring after long-term service with the rank of Air Commodore.
