Gloster Meteor T 7 A77-702
A77-702 arrived direct from the UK at Iwakuni, Japan, for use by No 77 Squadron's pilots converting from Mustangs to Meteors in the Korean War, starting in May 1951. In April 1955, A77-702 was allocated to No 78 Wing, and then transferred to No 23 (City of Brisbane) Squadron in September 1956. In February 1960, A77-702 as allotted to No 86 (Transport) Wing for use by No 38 Squadron Communications Flight.
In December 1960, approval for disposal was sought, and in 1963, Headquarters RAAF Laverton requested the use of the airframe for display purposes. In July 1963, A77-702 was issued to No 1 Aircraft Depot for conversion to an instructional aid, and in September 1971, A77-702 was moved to Point Cook.
This aircraft spent many years on display adjacent to the old RAAF Museum complex at Point Cook, suffering from the effects of external display. The aircraft is now stored to protect the airframe from further damage.
