Restoration Progress Reports

Horizontal Stabiliser:

             

Restoration of the Horizontal Stabiliser is well under way. A jig has been manufactured and painted, and dismantling of the stabiliser is nearly complete most of the ribs have been removed and dismantled, after making individual jigs. Following satisfactory testing of the West system epoxy glue, reassembly of the ribs has commenced using this adhesive.












Fuselage Bulkheads 6&7:

Dummy bulkheads have been manufactured from commercial Plywood and these have been mounted in a stand that is under construction that will allow all fittings and assemblies associate with these bulkheads to be trial fitted along with tail undercarriage and complete empennage. Dedicated bulkhead drilling and fin interchangeability jigs have also been made in conjunction with this project.













Engine QEC stands:

The first stand has been reworked and painted, and the QEC has been fitted into it. Work has commenced on the second stand.




















Propellers:

A full assessment of the components held has been completed and many parts have been prepared for assembly. A list of deficient items has been prepared and acquisition of these parts is being pursued.



















Plans and Drawings:

The Museum has received the rolls of microfilmed Mosquito drawings from the Smithsonian, and although these rolls pertain directly to the Canadian production of the Mosquito they have proven already to be a hugely valuable resource of relevant data. The Museum currently has a Volunteer working two days a week digitising these microfilm rolls, but even at this rate the process will take some time to complete. Volunteers are also going through the set of original de Havilland tooling drawings the Museum holds in order to create a more informative list of the parts they apply to.

Small parts and hardware:

A significant number of small metal parts and fittings have been processed through blasting, priming, cad-plating, and anodising as applicable and are now ready for final paint and/or assembly. Efforts are being made to identify local sources of British hardware and tools, brass nails and screws, and bearings.
