Historical photo of the base

The final northern bare base to be constructed for the RAAF, Scherger completes a series of strategic outposts reaching from Learmonth in Western Australia to the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland. Staffed only by caretakers, Scherger is designed for operational units to move into existing facilities at little or no notice, in the event of defence requirements or for exercises.
