The Air Force Reserve Posting Cycle

The first Reserve Posting Cycle for Band 2 and 3 positions, WGCDR and below, has now commenced for postings WEF 01 Jul 12. Specialist Reserve (RAAFSR) positions have been excluded in this first posting cycle but may be included in future posting cycles.

If you wish to be considered for a posting to a Band 2 or 3 position, you will need to submit a 'new-look' Personal Posting Preference form through your Unit and it must reach DP-AF by 15 Sep 11 (by 31 Aug in subsequent years). Please note that applications for the current posting cycle will not be accepted after the cut off date to avoid delaying and disadvantaging those members who meet the deadline.

Band 1 (High Readiness Reserve) positions are not filled through the normal Reserve Posting Cycle. Members will be posted to a Band 1 position on an ad hoc basis at any time during the year when a position becomes vacant. A Personal Posting Preference form can be submitted at any time to indicate your willingness to be posted to a Band 1 position.

In order for you to make an informed choice, it is important that you are familiar with the commitments for the Band and position. Check these documents for more information - Guide to Operational Reserve Bands and Guide to Reserve Positions.

Please note that in a posting mismatch, where your rank, mustering/category or your residential location does not match that of the position, then a posting will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and will be of a limited tenure.

Common Questions & Answers

Will the 01 Jul 12 postings affect me?

If your current position is a Band 2 or 3 position, your rank is WGCDR or below, and your Planned Date Out (PDO) is 01 Jul 12 or earlier, the Jul 12 posting cycle will affect you. However, if you are in the RAAF Specialist Reserve (RAAFSR) posted to a RAAFSR position or are in an Under Training position, your position will not be affected this year. If your position is under consideration for a posting this year, an email was sent to your current email address recorded in PMKeyS. A spreadsheet on the DP-AF website on the DRN lists the positions under consideration this year.

What do I do if my position is affected?

If your position is affected you will need to submit a 'new-look' Personal Posting Preference form. The Personal Posting Preference form must be submitted to your unit allowing enough time to reach DP-AF by 15 Sep 11. You are encouraged to complete a Personal Posting Preference form even if you wish to retain your current position. If you do not submit a Personal Posting Preference form, or are unsuccessful in being posted to another position in your location, or are unsuccessful in retaining your current position (in competition with other applicants), you may be posted to a Band 4 position.

What do I do if my position is not affected?

If you are a Reservist with a Planned Date Out (PDO) after 01 Jul 12, you have a choice whether or not to submit a Personal Posting Preference form to show your preference for a posting to another position. All Band 4 members are strongly encouraged to submit a PPP. Members of the RAAF Standby Reserve and Permanent Air Force members cannot apply for a posting to these positions. They must first transfer to a Band 4 position in the RAAF Active Reserve or RAAF Specialist Reserve.

How and when will I find out if I am posted?

Personnel Managers will aim to release postings WEF 01 Jul 12 by Nov 11. Your unit should inform you of your posting, or you will be able to view your posting on the Postings and Promotions website on the DRN.

How do I find my Planned Date Out?

It is important to know your PDO, as you need to submit a Personal Posting Preference form in the year prior (by 31 August). Members can view this date on the initial page on Air Force People Central, displayed as 'Proposed posting date'. Alternately you could approach your unit administration staff or Customer Service Centre for assistance.

Where can I get further information?

If you are unsure if this first posting cycle will affect you or you need further information, contact your unit administration staff, your local City Squadron or your Personnel Manager.
