No 86 Wing
The Royal Australian Air Force's No 86 Wing comprises Nos 33, 36 and 38 Squadrons, and No. 68 Ground Liaison Section (Army). From July 2011, No. 86 Wing will begin moving from its present location at RAAF Base Richmond in New South Wales to RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland.
In December 2006, No. 36 Squadron re-equipped with the new
C-17A Globemaster heavy airlift aircraft and relocated to RAAF Base Amberley, Queensland.
In December 2009, No. 38 Squadron re-equipped with the King Air light transport at RAAF Base Townsville.
No. 33 Squadron's role is to provide air-to-air refuelling and will be operating KC-30A multi-role tanker transport in the future.
