RAAF Learmonth base activation for dual exercises
Both 79SQN and 2FTS have deployed their pilots and aircraft from RAAF Base Pearce to RAAF Base Learmonth to participate in a four-week-long flight training exercise.
RAAF Base Learmonth is a ‘bare base’ and is designed to be activated to support training exercises and operational requirements with little or no notice.
Exercise Western Phoenix is a 79SQN training activity that will run from 16 July through to 2 August.
This exercise is designed to further develop the Hawk 127 pilot’s formation and general flying for the Introductory Fighter Course No 67.
Exercise Capricorn Sunset is a 2FTS training activity that will run from 31 July through to 15 August.
This exercise develops the PC-21 pilot’s advanced flying techniques, such as formation, aerobatics, low and circuit flying in unfamiliar and less restrictive air space as part of the Advanced Pilot Course No 260.
Air Force would like to advise the community that all flying activities are subject to variables such as weather and operational availability.
Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of training activities and Air Force appreciates the ongoing support of the Exmouth community during these training activities.
