Coates Hire Newcastle 500 - Supercars
The Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force will join forces at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 – Supercars 22-24 November, to showcase Australian Defence Force (ADF) capabilities through technology and teamwork.
A Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet from Number 77 Squadron based at RAAF Base Williamtown will perform an adrenaline pumping aerial handling display on both days over the weekend at around 4pm centered over the Newcastle Harbour precinct. Following the aerial display, the F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet will perform a low-level flypast over Pit Straight on Saturday and again on Sunday to mark the start of the main race.
At the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 ‘ADF ground precinct’, Supercar fans can register to test their skills as an Air Force pilot at the Air Force Simulator Experience, plus browse through a range of both interactive and static the Defence capability displays. The Australian Army Band Newcastle will also be onsite providing roving entertainment, and for young people considering a career in the ADF, Defence Force Recruiting career staff will be available with information and resources to get their career journey started (or call 13 19 01).
Senior Australian Defence Force Officer - RAAF Base Williamtown, Group Captain Peter Cluff said it was a privilege to engage with the local community at the event:
‘ADF participation in the Newcastle 500 – Supercars provides the opportunity to showcase local Defence capabilities and importantly highlight the dedication and commitment of our ADF men and women who serve at home and abroad on operations’.
