National Reconciliation Week 2020
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) celebrates respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and non-Indigenous Australians. NRW is held each year from 27 May to 3 June, giving Australians an opportunity to reflect on our shared histories and consider how we can contribute to a reconciled future.
This year’s theme, In this together, reminds us that we all play a part in reconciliation. Air Force is committed to reconciliation, and proudly recognises past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and women.
Air Force is working towards reconciliation by building relationships that strengthen our nation. Air Force’s Indigenous Liaison Officers work within their communities to connect locals with our bases around the country, while sharing their culture with our workforce and educating peers on Indigenous stories and history. Our newly formed Indigenous Champions Network is an internal group of advocates who will focus on two-way conversations, linking Indigenous and non-Indigenous members and promoting Air Force’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs.
While we may not be able to come together in person for NRW, we can connect online. You can read Air Force’s NRW stories on the Defence News website, and see the latest images on the Defence Image Gallery. Follow us on social media - @AusAirForce on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – and join in the national conversation by using the hashtags #NRW2020, #InThisTogether2020 and #AusAirForce.
