This year marks 100 years since the establishment of the first Legacy Australia (Legacy) club, in Melbourne, VIC. To commemorate this significant milestone, Legacy is conducting a commemorative torch relay that commenced on 23 Apr 23 in France (Pozieres), moved to the UK (London) and arrived on 30 Apr 22 in Australia (Albany, WA). From Albany, the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay (LCTR) will conduct a mixture of community events, torch relays and official functions, across each State and Territory, and culminate in Melbourne, VIC on 14 Oct 23.
The Royal Australian Air Force will support the LCTR launch into regional South Australia on Friday 12 May with flypasts from a P-8A Poseidon aircraft.
To acknowledge the service and sacrifices made by regional communities to Legacy and Australia over the last 100 years, a P-8A will fly over each town’s War Memorial as well as Port Pirie’s airport which was a training base during WW2.
The P-8A is operated by RAAF’s No. 11 and No. 292 Squadrons based at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia under the command of 92 Wing.
All times are Australian Central Standard Time.
