Nations share years of experience

More than 40 Senior Non-Commissioned Officers from a variety of different nations have taken time out of Exercise Pitch Black 18 this week to share years of military knowledge and experience.

Senior Enlisted Leaders from most of the 16 different nations participating in Exercise Pitch Black 18 have gathered for a morning tea on the 7th of August at RAAF Base Darwin, to discuss their common experiences within their respective Defence Forces.

A Senior Enlisted Leader, or Senior Non Commissioned Officer (SNCO) is a highly respected position within Air Force, which requires a high degree of knowledge and experience within a particular job role.

Air Combat Group Warrant Officer, WOFF Rudi Vitasz says holding this event highlights just how integral the international relationships between Senior Enlisted Leaders is for Air Forces worldwide.

“Holding this event has allowed personnel from the Senior Non-Commissioned officer ranks to communicate ideas from amongst our collective experience for the future Air Force.

“It has also allowed us to the opportunity to strengthen our relationships with other senior enlisted leaders here on Exercise Pitch Black.

“I’m excited to create networks with nations that I will be working alongside in the near future, such as in Malaysia for Exercise Bersama Lima later this year.”

Indonesian Air Force Warrant Officer Class 2 Jacks enjoyed the morning tea and was looking forward to meeting new people and embracing all cultures of participating nations on Exercise Pitch Black 18.

“This is my first Pitch Black but my second time to Australia; I was here last year for Exercise Elang AusIndo.” WO2 Jacks said.

“It’s good to compare with other countries, to compare other aircraft.

“Comparing our culture of course; it’s very different. It’s good.”

Air Commander Australia, Air Vice-Marshal Steve Roberton, DSC, AM, attended the event accompanied by Air Command Warrant Officer, WOFF Fiona Grasby.

The participation of both ACAUST and ACWOFF highlights the importance of bringing together so many years of experience in one room via the Senior Non-Commissioned ranks.

This year is the largest Exercise Pitch black ever conducted, with over 4000 Personnel and 140 aircraft from 16 different participating nations.
