Australian Army soldiers from Western Australia’s 13th Brigade will support the State Funeral honouring Second World War Veteran, Arthur Leggett OAM on Saturday 10 May 2025.
The community can expect to see an increased presence of soldiers around the Parliament House Precinct, St Georges Terrace, and St George’s Cathedral during this time. Australian Army personnel involved in the Military led funeral procession will bear weapons as a mark of respect to the sacrifice and service of Mr Leggett OAM. Projectiles will not be fired from the weapons involved, and the community should not be alarmed or concerned for their safety.
Up to three Hawk 127 Lead-In Fighter aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force’s No. 79 Squadron will conduct a formation flypast over St George’s Cathedral during the procession.
Arthur Leggett OAM was a Second World War Veteran, and Western Australia’s oldest surviving ex-prisoner-of-war. Mr Leggett sadly passed away on Sunday April 6, 2025, surrounded by family, at the age of 106 years.
