An increase of flying activity by C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft may be noticeable to the public during Exercise Global Dexterity 23-2.
Exercise Global Dexterity 23-2 will be conducted from RAAF Base Amberley from 27 November until 9 December 2023, and will involve low-level flying activity by C-17A aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), and Royal Air Force (RAF).
Training missions during Exercise Global Dexterity 23-2 will involve C-17As flying at altitudes as low as 200 metres around Sydney’s northwest, as well as parts of the South Queensland coast, regional Queensland and New South Wales. Activities in Papua New Guinea are occurring with the agreement of the Papua New Guinean Government.
Exercise Global Dexterity is a regularly scheduled exercise that provides an opportunity for RAAF C-17A aircrew and technicians to build on their close working ties with counterparts from the United States and United Kingdom.
Flying is subject to variables including air traffic control requirements, weather, and operational availability. As such, flypasts and displays may be subject to cancellation at short notice.
Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying.
More information about the C-17A is available from Air Force C-17A-Globemaster III page.
