From 5 to 7 May 2021, a detachment from No 79 Squadron from RAAF Base Pearce will deploy to RAAF Base Learmonth for flight training operations as part of Exercise Precision Potshot.
The deployment of three Hawk 127 aircraft, 11 ADF and support personnel will see a higher than normal tempo of operations from RAAF Base Learmonth.
The missions involve low altitude navigation training, with the aircraft being flown at 100 metres above the ground and speeds of up to 800 km/h. The missions have been planned to avoid built-up areas and will operate in the Pilbara, to the east of Learmonth.
The detachment members are from the Introductory Fighter Course (IFC). The course consists of fourteen weeks of combined ground and flying training and equips the trainees with the theoretical, practical and mental skills required to support them in achieving successful careers in the RAAF’s fast-jet environment.
All Air Force training has considered the local state COVID-19 precautions and the community can be assured that this deployment is in accordance with those state guidelines.
