Details

A Royal Australian Air Force C-130J Hercules aircraft will conduct a flypast of Government House in Sydney on Monday, 11 June, to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday.

The flypast will take place between 2:50pm and 3:10pm as air traffic from Sydney airport allows. The Hercules will be at a height of approximately 300 metres.

The Hercules aircraft is tactical air mobility aircraft operated by No. 37 Squadron at RAAF base Richmond, North West of Sydney. The aircraft is one of twelve aircraft in the Air Force Hercules fleet.

No. 37 Squadron has been based in the Sydney region since 1966 when it was equipped with the C-130 E model Hercules. It converted to the J model Hercules in 1999-2000. Ideal for transporting cargo throughout operational theatres, the Hercules can carry up to 128 troops or 19 tonnes of equipment.

Recently the Hercules has been providing humanitarian assistance the residents of Papua New Guinea after the earthquakes earlier this year. There are two Hercules aircraft deployed to the Middle East Region to support the Australian Defence Force operations.

Air Force appreciates the support it receives from the residents of Sydney and New South Wales. Please note this event maybe cancelled at short notice due to operational requirements, weather or air traffic.
