Royal Australian Air Force F-35A Lightning II aircraft from Number 3 Squadron based at RAAF Base Williamtown will conduct diversion training into Canberra Airport on Wednesday 3 February.
DATE: Wednesday 3 February 2021
VENUE: Canberra Airport, ACT
Up to two aircraft will be conducting circuit training within the Canberra airport area at approximately 10am and then departing to the north to return to RAAF Base Williamtown.
Diversion training is an essential part of pilot training on fast-jet aircraft as it assists pilots to land at different airfields in all weather conditions.
Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military activity, and Air Force appreciates the ongoing support of the Canberra community during these training activities.
The timing of this activity is subject to variables including weather and operation availability. We request that local residents do not call Canberra Airport directly for updated timings.
Commander Air Combat Group, Air Commodore Tim Alsop, will be available for comment on this activity between 3pm and 5pm Tuesday 02 February 2021. Please contact Defence Media for interviews.
