Our military and daily lives are reliant on space communications, from providing real-time information to our deployed forces to GPS systems and ATMs.
Losing access to space would impact not just the national security of Australia but would fundamentally change our way of life.
Space is becoming more congested, contested and competitive with over 7500 satellites currently orbiting the Earth, and thousands more being launched every year. We must protect billions of dollars’ worth of commercial and military assets against space debris, collisions and destructive acts.
We are enhancing our sovereign capabilities so that Australian forces will be able to control what we see and when we see it. This is crucial to the safety and capability of our forces and will ensure we can efficiently and effectively respond when required.
Space is also central to how we will decisively shape, deter and respond across multi-domain operations, using advanced hypersonics, precision strike missiles and guided weapons.
