The RAAF Museum hosts one of the best collections of historical aircraft in the world. Visitors will enjoy a range of exhibitions and learn about the history of the Royal Australian Air Force.

Heritage gallery

The Museum’s heritage gallery presents exhibits exploring the inception of military aviation in Australia and stories of our service and personnel from the Australian Flying Corps to the present day.

We look in detail at the narratives of our First World War aviators and their service from the Mesopotamian Campaign to the Western Front, and our Second World War aviators who served on the home front and with Fighter, Bomber, and Coastal Commands. We document the pioneering women of Air Force, from the Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service, the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force and the Women’s Royal Australian Air Force. In 2027, the RAAF will celebrate 50 years of integrated service.

Aircraft galleries

We have several galleries exploring the history of Australian air power and featuring numerous aircraft of historic significance to the RAAF.

The Training gallery showcases the evolution of RAAF training from the start of Central Flying School operations at Point Cook in 1914, through the Second World War, to the modern era.

The Technology gallery looks at the development of air power in Australia from props to rotary and jet propulsion.

Our ‘Made in Australia’ Hangar highlights Australian – and in some cases Melbourne-made – military aircraft development and production, with examples of early locally produced fighter, drone and supersonic aircraft.

The recently re-opened Strike Hangar showcases Air Force's awe-inspiring Strike and Reconnaissance capability. Strike Hangar is home to a Canberra Bomber, an F-111C and an F/A-18 Classic Hornet and features a 15-minute theatrical-quality immersive light and sound show, which tells the stories of these aircraft and their service through the aircrew who flew them.

External displays

A number of static aircraft are on display around the Point Cook grounds. Among them are the Lockheed C-130H Hercules A97-011, Lockheed AP-3C Orion A9-751, and replica Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII A58-492.
