Chosen for a training school because of climate and geography, Temora was the home of No 10 Elementary Flying Training School during World War II. The unit provided initial flight training for 2527 graduates and, in August 1944, had 97 Tiger Moth aircraft on strength. At the end of World War II, control of the airfield soon reverted back to the Department of Civil Aviation.
