Historical photo of the base

Constructed as a major stores and maintenance base for the US Army Air Corps, Tocumwal was soon vacated by the Americans in favour of more northern bases. Established as a RAAF Base in 1942, it became used for heavy bomber conversion training by No 7 Operational Training Unit, in addition to maintenance, stores and training units located at the base. Following the war, the base was used to store aircraft waiting for disposal.
