Townsville

Today used by RAAF and Australian Army aviation units, Townsville was a vital RAAF and US Army Air Force Base during World War II. Some measure of the base's importance can be seen from the 25 000 air movements recorded between October 1943 and December 1944. During World War II, the base housed Australian and American fighter-bomber and transport squadrons, as well as various support elements.
