Williamtown

Now housing the headquarters of both Air Combat Group and Surveillance and Response Group, Williamtown was initially planned as a civil airfield for Newcastle before being placed under the control of the RAAF during World War II. Many units of the RAAF and US Army Air Corps passed through the base during World War II, but the base is best known for its association with the RAAF's fighter squadrons from 1946 until the present day, with Nos 3, 76 and 77 Squadrons being among the units at the base.
