Cracking work! Fifty years of ‘The Lab’

The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) is responsible for enhancing and promoting the safety of military aviation. Beyond the core regulator role its Non Destructive Testing and Composite Technologies capability at Amberley, known affectionately as ‘The Lab’, has been providing globally recognised services to the ADF, industry and partner nations for decades.  Originally established in 1972 it is now celebrating fifty years of proud service.

Warrant Officer Gregory Wilson explains that part of the reason for planning an event is to include former ‘Lab’ members and Non Destructive Inspection Technicians from other Units and bases.

“There are a lot of former members and NDITECHs out there,” Warrant Officer Wilson said.

“We want to contact them and acknowledge their contribution.

“‘The Lab’ has a well-deserved reputation for being at the forefront of technical expertise with aviation materials and this is due to the very many contributions made over five decades,” he said.

An Anniversary Function themed -‘50 years of the Lab’ will be held at Club Services Ipswich on 29th October 2022.  All past and present employees of ‘The Lab’ and all NDITECHs are invited to celebrate their successes and achievements over the past 50 years.

It starts at 6:00pm and Club Services Ipswich will be providing a courtesy bus within the local area.

The point of contact is WOFF Gregory Wilson, woffndt.dasa@defence.gov.au.

In addition to the function, DASA-NDT&CT will participate in an exhibition to demonstrate current and emerging technologies at the Ipswich and Amberley Air Tattoo and Public Open Day over the weekend of 29-30th October 2022.
