Exercise Diamond Storm 22 will involve day and night missions from June 6 to 17.
As the exercise moves into its second week, aviators at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal will conduct an afternoon mission and an evening mission.
There will be no exercise flying after 11pm.
There will also be no exercise flying on Friday nights or throughout the weekend.
The exercise is expected to return to day-time flying only from June 20 to 24 when it concludes.
Group Captain Matthew Harper, Exercise Director for Diamond Storm 22, said night-time flying is essential for training.
“Air Warfare Instructor Course trains the students to fight day or night and in all weather conditions. In order to meet our training requirements, we need to expose the students to these conditions,” Group Captain Harper said.
“We follow noise mitigation procedures at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal to reduce the impact of noise on the community, whilst also safely accomplishing our mission.”
“These measures include careful management of the procedures and flightpaths we fly when aircraft depart and return from the airfield. We also carefully consider the times of departure and arrival.”
Exercise Diamond Storm 22 is the culmination of the six-month Air Warfare Instructor Course, which ensures the Australian Defence Force remains in a ready state of preparedness in the protection of Australia and its national interests.
Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying.
Imagery of the exercise will become available onthe Defence Image Gallery.
