Flypast to commemorate the Bombing of Darwin

To commemorate the anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin, No. 75 Squadron F-35A Lightning II aircraft from RAAF Base Tindal will conduct a flypast over the Darwin Cenotaph.

The bombing of Darwin occurred on 19 February 1942 and to this day, remains the largest ever attack by a foreign power on the Australian mainland. In two air attacks, 242 Japanese aircraft attacked Darwin’s township, harbour and airfields in an attempt to prevent the Allies from using them as bases to contest the invasion of Timor and Java during WWII.

All low level flying activities are conducted within strict safety and operational guidelines.

Flying is subject to change, including short notice cancellation, due to variables such as air traffic control requirements, weather, and operational availability.

Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying.
